　腹部腫瘤の診断には，今日種々の検査法が行なわれている．腹腔鏡検査もその1つである．これは検査法としては歴史の比較的古いものであるが，今日においてもその診断的役割は大きい．とくに最近の内視鏡診断の進歩に伴い，この分野でもいろいろな工夫がなされ，昔に比べよりきめの細かい診断，また治療への応用などかなりの威力を発揮している．

　今回のテーマは，胃を除く上腹部腫瘤の診断に限られているが，話をこれに限定したとしても，本検査法の有用性はなんら変るものではない．

　Usefulness of Laparoscopy in diagnosis of epigastric tumor was described on the basis of our experiences. We have performed Laparoscopy in 982 patients in these ten years, 26% of which was found to possess abdominal tumors. Judging from this result, we could say that Laparoscopy plays a valuable role in diagnosis of epigastric tumor, since 83% of abdominal tumors have been reported to consist of epigastric ones.

　In the present report, we referred to the diseases with epigastric swelling in each of such organs as liver, gall-bladder, pancreas, spleen, kidney and peritoneum, which are frequently encountered and draw our attentions in daily clinics, and further discussed some reference points in the diagnosis of these diseases, stressing the findings by Laparoscopy.

　Laparoscopy is cerainly useful for diagnosis of epigastric tumor, while it is also true that it has limits in its diagnostic capacity. Therefore, it is recommended that we should make use of its merits, make up its demerits by means of other examinations and make a precise diagnosis on all-over judgment from these results.
