遺伝カウンセリングの基本概念

遺伝カウンセリングの定義

　日本医学会「医療における遺伝学的検査・診断に関するガイドライン」（2011年2月策定，2022年3月改定）^1）による「遺伝カウンセリング」の定義は，「遺伝カウンセリングは，疾患の遺伝学的関与について，その医学的影響，心理学的影響および家族への影響を人々が理解し，それに適応していくことを助けるプロセスである。このプロセスには，1）疾患の発生および再発の可能性を評価するための家族歴および病歴の解釈，2）遺伝現象，検査，マネージメント，予防，資源および研究についての教育，3）インフォームド・チョイス（十分な情報を得た上での自律的選択），およびリスクや状況への適応を促進するためのカウンセリング，などが含まれる」とされている。この定義は，米国遺伝カウンセラー協会（National Society of Genetic Counselors：NSGC）のtask forceが2006年に改定した定義^2）“Genetic counseling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contributions to disease. This process integrates the following：・Interpretation of family and medical histories to assess the chance of disease occurrence or recurrence.・Education about inheritance, testing, management, prevention, resources and research.・Counseling to promote informed choices and adaptation to the risk or condition.”をほぼ直訳したものとなっている。
