Role of Androgen in the Elderly. Cardiovascular disease and androgen.

　動脈硬化危険因子である高コレステロール血症は男性よりも女性の方が多いが，動脈硬化性疾患の発症は女性よりも男性の方が多く，しかも若くして発症する。これには，男性の方が高血圧，糖尿病の罹患が多いことが原因の一つとして考えられる。この動脈硬化危険因子の発症，進展の差には性ホルモン，あるいは遺伝子が大きく関与していることが考えられる。この分野の研究は動脈硬化性疾患の治療に大きく寄与すると思われる。

　Hypercholesterolemia, which is well known one of the important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, is more prevalence in women than men. However, cardiovascular disease is more prevalence in men than women. It is possible that men have more frequently hypertension and glucose intolerance than women. These may affect the sex difference in the cardiovascular disease prevalence quite a few. The feature of risk factors for cardiovascular disease may be affected by both sex hormone and sex related genes. To clarify the role of sex hormone and sex related genes in the risk factor for atherosclerosis will be very important to reduce the atherosclerosis developments in human.
