Insensitive evaporative warter loss during laparoscopic surgery is an important factor in perioperative fluid management. However, the amount of insensible warter loss due to dry CO2 insufflation is still unknown. To address this issue, we compared the amount of water evaporation using a model experimental system. There was no significant difference in the amount of water evaporation between the two groups. This result indicates that laparoscopic surgery may have the same amount of insensible evaporation as open surgery. Furthermore, in the laparoscopic model group, there was a positive correlation between the amount of airflow and the amount of water evaporation, suggesting that the amount of insensible evaporation during laparoscopic surgery changes depending on the conditions of insufflation.
