The approach to sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) and completion lymph node dissection (CLND) in melanoma treatment has changed significantly in recent years. With the revision of the current Clinical Practice Guidelines for Skin Malignant Tumors, 3rd Edition, “not performing CLND for patients with positive sentinel lymph node metastasis” is recommended. This change was prompted by several large-scale international multicenter prospective randomized controlled trials that have led to major updates in guidelines concerning skin malignant tumors worldwide. As new perspectives on SLNB and early CLND gradually take hold, it has become increasingly important to have a solid understanding of the practical aspects of SLNB and CLND in melanoma care. This article aims to provide an in-depth discussion of these procedures, categorized by anatomical site, while introducing the latest reports and findings on each related technique.
