Purpose

The study's purpose is to verify the effectiveness of an educational program developed to improve hospital nursing administrators' ability to accept supporting nurses.

Research Method

Participants were randomly divided into an intervention group that participated in the program and a control group. Program effects were measured using a questionnaire designed for the study's purpose. The total number of correct answers was analyzed with the paired t-test, unpaired t-test, chi-square test, sign test, and multiple regression analysis using propensity scores. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the College of Nursing Arts and Sciences, University of Hyogo, Research Institute of Nursing Care for People and Community.

Results

There were significant differences in the number of correct answers between the two groups, with the intervention group giving more correct answers than the control group. The questions answered correctly by the intervention group were related to the need for assessment and support, understanding of the psychology behind an appeal for support, coping processes, and requesting nurses' best method of contact.

Discussion

The effectiveness of the program was demonstrated as program participants showed an understanding of the procedure of dispatch, the psychology behind requesting support, coping processes, and requesting nurses' best method of contact.
