The purpose of study is clarifying the relation of locus of control for health related performance and QOL in peritoneal dialysis patients. This research performed mailing investigation by a questionnaire to 91 peritoneal dialysis patients. The Japanese version Health Locus of Control (JHLC) was used for locus of control as health related performance, and SF-36 was used for QOL.

The result, peritoneal dialysis patients who had high I of JHLC were better RP, BP, GH, MH, RE, SF and VT of SF-36: patients who considered their own responsibility had better QOL. Moreover, PD patients who had better VT of SF-36 were high F of JHLC: better VT patients considered that family has responsibility.

Particularly, PD Patients have to understand their conditions and take responsibility for self-care at home. We consider important they realize they have responsibility for their health. Patients who perform good maintenances by their own responsibility have sense of self-control, and decrease their uncertainty for the future, a result their QOL improve. Also, family support is important, but patients who recognize family has responsibility for their health do not have high QOL. We consider patients who have their own responsibility for their health evaluate high vitality, and so they recognize their high vitality based on family support.

We found PD patients who were responsibility for their health had high QOL, and were high VT of QOL recognized family has responsibility for their health.
