Exploratory eye movements when observing occupational therapy clients were investigated in order to evaluate visual information processing function in students of four-year occupational therapy programs. This study evaluated educational effects through observing changes in visual information processing function as students advanced through the curriculum. We analyzed mean gaze time (MGT), mean eye scanning length (MESL), total number of gaze points (TNGP) and the ratio of TNGP in the target area using an eye mark recorder. As a result, the MGT and MESL in first-year students were shorter and longer respectively than that of more advanced students. The TNGP increased as the students moved through the four-year program. The ratio of TNGP in fourth-year students was higher than that of other students. These findings suggest that exploratory eye movements change as the students advance through the educational curriculum for occupational therapy observation.
