Over a two-year period, we set up a series of creative activities to involve geriatric health services facility residents in the community, targeting "geriatric health services facilities that have taken root in the community". In the first year, residents produced traffic safety key chains and presented them to the local police department. In the second year, in addition to the production of traffic safety key chains, five residents who had shown symptoms of depression participated in the distribution of the key chains to drivers. Residents also produced coasters and opened a booth in a charity bazaar. As a result, participants gained a sense of their own competency, a sense of satisfaction, and their desire to participate in activities increased. In addition, the families and residents of the community, who learned of their activities through the mass media, came to have a new understanding of the remaining abilities of the residents, leading to a change in their sense of the role of occupational therapy in geriatric health services facility.
