The purpose of this study is to clarify whether a recreation for disabled elderly persons has an effect on their ADL and mental faculties or not. During a half year study, the relations between Hasegawa's revised dementia rating scale (HDS-R) and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) with recreation for 42 disabled elderly persons in the nursing home were investigated.

The FIM score of once-per-week participants was mostly decreased, and half of them had a very low score. Then after a half year, it was significantly lowes. But, the FIM score over twice-a-week participants was maintained. It means that they can maintain their ADL if they participate in recreaion twice a week.

Conversely, even if under once-a-week participation, it was possible to maintain their ADL by active life. The relations between mental faculties with participation in recreation was not found.
