The aim of this study was to clarify characteristics of patients who received psychiatric consultation during hospitalization in the general practice department, and who were later admitted to psychiatry and subsequently received physical rehabilitation. We examined the implementation of rehabilitation at Shinshu University Hospital where the departments of surgery and emergency care regularly consulted the department psychiatry, due to patients suffering from adjustment disorder, delirium and transplant-related conditions. Rehabilitation was performed on 56.2% of patients referred to psychiatry, a large number of which underwent physical therapy. In psychiatric inpatients, 70.9% received rehabilitation, and 27.9% received physical rehabilitation. Due to an increase in elderly patients, more physical and mental approaches are required. It is necessary to be actively involved with the consultation-liaison occupational therapist.
