This study attempted to identify the hidden relationships between the NM scale score assessment of cognition by observation and estimated functional age levels based on observing activities of daily living (ADL). The subjects included 225 people aged 60 years and older, who attended facilities for the aged, such as day care centers or nursing homes. To analyze the relationship between the NM scale score and functional age level, Pearson's correlation coefficient and simple regression analysis were used. A very high correlation was found between the NM scale score and functional age (γ=0.934, ρ=1.000, p<0.05). The relationships between the two variables can be simply expressed as follows: Functional age (years)=0.846e0.048NM scale score, NM scale score = 4.573+19.903 loge Functional age (R2=0.963) Simple relationships between cognitive level and functional age level were found. That is, cognitive decline and functional age (ADL/IADL function) decline have a high correlation. Both of these easy standard clinical assessments, the NM scale score and ADL/IADL function observation can be used to predict each other. Therefore, occupational therapy goal setting to meet realistic functional levels can be performed easily using cognitive information.
