As community-based comprehensive care systems are promoted, there is a need for multidisciplinary collaboration. The purpose of this study was to examine factors related to the inclusion of speech-language-hearing therapists (SLHTs) in care plans for users of long-term care insurance. The subjects were 2,010 care managers working at 675 facilities in Okayama Prefecture, including community comprehensive support centers, elderly support centers and home care support offices, and the information was collected via a questionnaire survey. The results showed that the inclusion of SLHTs in care plans was related to the region where the care managers worked, whether or not they knew of facilities with SLHTs, whether or not they had worked with SLHTs in the past, and whether or not they had obtained certification as a chief care manager. The results of this study suggest that in order to promote the inclusion of SLHTs in care plans in the future, it is necessary to provide information to care managers regarding the scope of practice of SLHTs, such as where they are employed and what kind of service they can provide.
