Since its opening in 2001, Niigata Rehabilitation Hospital has been providing rehabilitation to support resumption of driving. Comprehensive evaluations, including actual vehicle evaluations, have been conducted with the cooperation of nearby driving schools. The number of medical institutions involved in the program gradually increased in the prefecture, and the number of cooperating driving schools increased dramatically in 2012 after a curriculum was developed by the Driver's License Center and the Prefectural Association of Designated Driving Schools. At the same time, the Study Group on Disability and Driving was established to promote cooperation among medical institutions. The number of medical institutions involved gradually increased to reach 53 in 2022. The activities of the study group are always carried out in cooperation with the Driver's License Center and the Prefectural Association of Designated Driving Schools. In 2017, we cooperated in the revision of the medical certificate form for stroke, and in 2021, the curriculum for the training course to support resumption of driving was revised and actual driving on the road was added, making the evaluation more practical. We will continue to enhance our activities in the future.
