　頸部内視鏡手術に対する患者意識調査を行った．対象は当科頭頸部腫瘍・甲状腺外来を受診した患者102人（回答98人）である．調査はアンケート方式で，年齢，性別，頸部手術を受けるとしたら内視鏡手術と従来の外切開法のどちらを希望するか，その理由，内視鏡手術の切開部位はどこに何cmくらいまでがよいか，について尋ねた．回答者の72％が内視鏡手術を希望し，頸部に傷をつけるのがいやだ，術後早く退院したいという理由が多かった．従来法希望者は，安心だから，手術時間が短いほうがよいという理由であった．頸部内視鏡手術の切開は，服にかくれる手術操作のしやすいところで，長さは2cmまでがよいとする回答が多かった．

From 1998, the endoscopic neck surgery has been performed in our department. There are only a few papers regarding what the patients expect from endoscopic neck surgery. We sent out questionnaires to patients who came to our clinic for thyroid disease. Questions consisted of age, gender, choice of surgical procedures (endos-copic or traditional procedure), and the preference for the place and length of surgical incision for endoscopic procedure. We received answers from 98 patients. Seventy-two percent chose the endoscopic surgery, because they wanted to avoid neck scars and to leave the hospital earlier.
