A 71-year-old man was referred to our hospital with a submucosal tumor of the ascending colon that was revealed by screening computed tomography. Ultrasonic endoscopy diagnosed the lesion as a retroperitoneal tumor. Since the accumulation of fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) in the tumor was detected by FDG-positron emission tomography (PET), surgery was performed laparoscopically. The tumor was found in the ascending colon, and ileocecal resection was performed. A histological analysis revealed the tumor to be dedifferentiated liposarcoma of the colon. Primary liposarcoma of the colon is very rare, and a case resected by laparoscopic surgery has not been previously reported.
