In recent years, community pharmacies have played an expanding role in public health. Pharmacies provide a variety of patient care services, including immunizations and disease prevention such as smoking cessation. Various studies have been conducted and evidence has accumulated regarding their effectiveness. This paper introduces the results of domestic and international research on the use of pharmacies in disease management for diabetes and hypertension. This paper introduces the results of a clinical study conducted in Alberta, Canada, on the outcomes of patient care by pharmacist prescribing, including cardiovascular disease risks, such as systolic blood pressure, and blood glucose control (HbA1c). In addition, intervention studies in community pharmacies such as the COMPASS project (diabetes) and COMPASS-BP (hypertension) have been conducted in Japan. The patient outcomes improved by pharmacists briefly providing information.
