In the medical care of patients with COVID-19, taking preventive measures against nosocominal infections is one of the important issues not only to provide patients with safe medical care but also to protect medical staff involved in the care of patients with COVID-19. Engineering control is the first concept that should be emphasized in infection control, which specifically refers to cohorting and zoning. In this section, we will introduce an example of cohorting and zoning in our hospital. In addition, we will discuss the current situation in Japan regarding the response to close contacts and the criteria for terminating the isolation of COVID-19 patients, based on measures taken in Europe and the United States.
