  • Look Inside

To carry out time and motion study safely and successfully, deliberative planning and flexible performance on site is imperative. In the previous chapters, general issues regarding time and motion study have been described. In this chapter, the author refers to some special issues experienced through the actual implementation of a study and lessons learned from them. They include :

・Considerations for the time and motion study in the clinical setting :“preparations and supplies for the study”, “importance of knowing the clinical setting”, “ethical considerations”, “considerations for the observers”, “troubleshooting during the implementation”.

・Classification system and coding :“the viewpoint of time and motion observational methodology”, “advanced classification system”, “terminology for classification”, “difficulty of coding”.

・Data entry and analysis :“tips for data entry”, “issues in data entry and analysis”, “communication with the programmer”.

・Organizational management for the time and motion study :“organizational chart throughout the time frame”, “importance of continuation of time and motion study”.

・Comments and suggestions from the participants, including the head physician, the head nurse, co-researchers, and students of the healthcare course.
