Before you start to write in English

　英文編集者：多くの日本人著者は最初は日本語で公表し，それから英語で公表すると聞いています．国際的規範からすると，この慣例は倫理に反することとされていることを知っていましたか？これを"priorpublication"といいます．都合のいいことに（？），欧米の科学雑誌の編集者のほとんどは日本語を読めません．でなければ，きっともうとっくにみんなこのことを知っていたはずです．最初に日本語で，次に英語で論文を公表することを悪いと考えている編集者ならば，その著者によるすべての論文を将来にわたって拒絶するかもしれません．このことは著者にとっては非常に不都合なことです．もし最初から英語で書けば，こういった問題は避けられます，ただし，初めの論文の言語が広く通じていないものなら，"prior pubiication"は悪くないと考える編集者もいます．そのときは，もちろん何の問題もありません．

English editor : I hear that a lot of Japanese authors publish first in Japanese and then in English. Did you know that by international standards,① this practice is often thought to be unethical? It is known as "prior publication."② It's lucky③ that few scientific editors in the West can read Japanese. Otherwise they would already know about this custom. If an editor thinks that publication first in Japanese and then in English is wrong, he or she may reject④ all papers by that author in the future. This is a very serious disadvantage for the author. If authors write in English from the start, they can avoid this problem.
