Introduction―In the clinical laboratory, one of the key assets is personnel. However, sometimes employees*2 are not always treated as the assets they really are. No one would*3 think of neglecting necessary maintenance on an expensive piece of equipment because of the possibility of an expensive and inconvenient breakdown. Although employees seldom have "breakdowns" causing complete work stoppage, their productivity can decrease or they can seek employment elsewhere because of neglect *4. It might appear easier to replace equipment than to replace a loyal employee who is very competent at his job. Thus, the individual, who is so vital to the success of the laboratory, should also receive proper care and maintenance.
