Since brain check in Japan has become more prevalent with the wide use of MRI, it is imperative that asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders are treated during actual medical examination. Furthermore, the importance of these disorders has been gradually recognized. Consequently, a new section has been established for asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders in the "Japanese Guidelines for the Management of Stroke, 2009". In these guidelines asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders are classified into the following 5 sections and provide knowledge about the methods that specialists and general physicians treating asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders should acquire:(1) Asymptomatic cerebral infarction (including white matter lesions), (2) Asymptomatic cerebral hemorrhage, (3) Asymptomatic cervical/intracerebral vascular stenosis/occlusion, (4) Unruptured cerebral arteriovenous malformation, and (5) Unruptured cerebral aneurysm. This paper describes optimal treatments for asymptomatic cerebrovascular disorders in accordance with these guidelines.
