  • Look Inside

Using monoclonal antibodies directed against T cell subsets, B cell, and natural killer cell and ABC (avidin-biotin complex) method as the immunoperoxidase technique, we identified the subpopulations of infiltrating cells in frozen cancer tissue in 13 cases to evaluate the host-immuno-response in head and neck cancer.

A majority of infiltrating cells in cancer net work was Leu-l+ cells, in contrast to HLB3+ cells were rarely found in 9 cases. Both Leu-2a+ cells and Leu-3a+ cells same as Lett-1+ cells were presented diffusely in cancer net work. This finding suggests that the host-immunoresponse in cancer requires the interactions of both Leu-2a+ cells and Leu-3a+ cells. A few infiltrating Leu-7+ cells which were recognized as natural killer cell were presented in 3 cases. In all 3 cases of recurrent cancer, no infiltrating cell was found.
