  • Look Inside

A 53-year-old woman complained of tinnitus and deafness in her right ear, and diagnosis of cochlear deafness was made by neurotological examination and the normal pattern of auditory brainstem response (ABR). But neuroradiological examinations revealed a small acoustic tumor (AT) within the right internal acoustic meatus, and it was removed by neurosurgical technique.

ABR is very useful for detection of AT at early stage, and abnormal wave patterns of ABR have been reported in many instances. But it was emphasized that ABR can show normal wave pattern when AT is very small as in this case.
