  • Look Inside

Clinical trials of intranasal administration of antihistamine in fourteen patients with nasal allergy showed the remarkable result compared to that of oral administration.

The protocol was this: the first week--no therapy, the next week--clemastine fumarate (CF) 2mg per os (2×1 mg tab), the last two weeks-two capsules were administered intranasally per day and each contained 40 mg hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) only (A), or 0.1 mg CF with 40mg lactose (B) or 0.1mg CF with 40mg HPC (C).

Double blind cross over design was taken. The symptoms were more decreased in B and C than per os taking (P<0.10), and side effects, especially CNS suppression were not at all seen in A and B and C.
