Sjögren's syndrome is characterized by keratoconjunctivitis sicca and xerostomia. Sialography has been believed as one of the most available techniques to investigate exocrine gland function, which is generally decreased in Sjögren's syndrome.

Rubin and Holt classified the pathological changes of sialography into five stages; normal, punctate, globular, cavitary and destructive. On the other hand, the pathogenesis of exocrine gland dysfunction is due to infiltration of small lymphocytes, and so minor salivary glands of the lower lip (lip biopsy)have been often examined instead of the palotid gland, because of safety and easiness of the procedure. We reported a good correlation between the stage of sialography and the number of infiltrated lymphocytes in the minor salivary glands.
