  • Look Inside

A 36-year-old female developed continuous bleeding from the right middle ear for two months following acute otitis media.

Surgery revealed that the bony wall of the sigmoid sinus and the mastoid air cells had disappeared and the bulding sigmoid sinus occupied the whole mastoid. It was thought that the hemorrhage occured due to inflammation of the wall of the sigmoid sinus at the antrum.

For strengthening the wall. and blocking the aditus ad antrum. a flap of the temporal muscleand gelfoam was inserted between the sigmoid sinus and the bony wall of the middle cranial fossa and the external auditory meatus.

Hemotyrnpanum disappeared and has not recurred during 2 years postoperatively.
