  • Look Inside

Two cases of Lermoyez's syndrome are reported with a review of Lermoyez's original paper.

Lermoyez's syndrome has been characterized; heretofore, as the opposite symptom manifestation of that of the Ménière's disease. But, the authors believe that both diseases show the same symptomatic pattern of improvements in an existing cochlear symptoms following a vertiginous spell. The difference between these two diseases is that the duration of the preexisting cochlear symptoms of Lermoyez's syndrome is relatively longer than that of Ménière's disease. The preexisting cochlear symptoms of Lemoryez's syndrome improves simultaneously at the beginning of the vertiginous spell. Ménière's disease represents the shorter duration of the preexisting cochlear symptom and this symptom improves gradually during the vertiginous spell.

The authors conclude that the Lermoyez's syndrome is a variant of the Ménière's disease.
