  • Look Inside

There were 286 cases of cholesteatoma among the 1,507 cases of aural operations performed at the Otolaryngological Department of the Okayama Medical school for the period of 11 years, from 1960 to 1970 inclusive. Audiographic examinations were formed on 105 case of patients who returned for reexamination.

From this experience the authors conclude the best means of treatment for cholesteatoma would be as follows: 1. Early diagnosis followed by early operation.

 2. After a careful examination of the conditions; closed method of operation is preferable.

 3. However, whenever there is a fear of incomplete removal of the cholesteatomatous material, open method of operation should be the choice.
