It has been generally considered that the chondroma of the external auditory meatus requires no special attention.
The authors report an unusual case of chondroma of the ear which was histologically diagnosed as benign but clinically, with facial nerve involvement the growth suggested malignancy.
The patient a man, aged 50, complained of tumor on the right ear and facial paralysis of several years standing.
The operation revealed extensive bony involvement of the chondroma which extended to the Fallopian canal and the mastoid cavity posteriorly and to the bulbus venae jugularis inferiorly.
Yet, histological examination of the chondroma showed no malignancy but, the possibility of localized malignancy still remains from the clinical point of view.
