 A resume of the clinical and statistical observations made in 1971 together with the transitions that have occurred during the eight previous years in the Speech and Hearing Clinic of the Kanazawa University Hospital is reported as follows:

 1) The total number cases in 1971 to be 315; 60% of these cases were children under age 5. By distribution in the types of speech disorder, 26% showed hearing impairement ; 19% were found to be affected with cleft palate; 18% mentally deficient; 8% with difficult articulation; 7% were stutterers; 5% with environment factors and esophageal voice and 4% were found to be affected with aphasia.

 2) The total number of cases for each showed a progressive increase in number especially in early ages of 2 and 3.

 3) The cases with hearing impairement, mentally deficiency and cleft palate showed an increase anually but cases of stuttering showed a decrease.

 4) When considering the diagnosis, therapy and prevention of speech disorders, systematic screening and cooperative team approach are highly important and necessary.

 5) It is also emphasized that the training of speech therapist to be another important factor.
