Evoked response audiometry in infants was performed during sleep induced by gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHBA) and monosodium trichlorethyl phosphate (MTEP). No remarkable difference was observed in induction and maintenance of sleep between these two drugs. The side-effects, vomiting or salivation, occured in 6 infants out of the 58 given GHBA, and 1 out of 51 cases administered MTEP.

The EEG-study showed that MTEP-induccd sleep changed the sleep-stage from "light" to "moderately deep", then to "light" again as time elapsed, whereas GHBA-induced sleep, consisting mainly of slow waves, humps and spindles, had little change of stages.

As for the response, there was no difference in peak latencies between the two groups although the GHBA cases had a tendency to make the positive-negative-positive forms and the MTEP cases the positive-negative forms.
