The fibrinolytic activity found in the nasal and sinus mucosae is studied by means ofhistochemical fibrin slide technic.

This fibrinolytic activity appeared to be aproperty peculiar to the veins and venules. Its presence was strongly shown in the venous plexus of the mucosa of the turbinates with a gradual increase in the activity as the vessels reach the deeper layers of the mucosa from the surface towards the periosteum.

The venous plexus of the turbinal mucosa is an important structure by which a proper temperature of the nasal cavity may be maintained. And the fibrinolytic activity provides the plexus a role capable of keeping the blood in a fluidstate so that the temperature of the nasal cavity be kept under control.

The author considers the presence of the products of fibrinolysis as an agent by which vascular water permeation may be facilitated. And the fact that Kubo's ozena operation and Takahashi's technic of sinus operation having been rewarded with good results, may be due to the creation of a state by which the nasal cavity is rendered to function physiologically by regaining proper humidity and temperature.
