　Ⅰ．目的

　感染症に対する抗生物質療法の卓効に伴なつて無選択，無批判的ともいえる使用法が一般的な傾向になつている現状において，しだいに様相を変えつつある感染症に対して，はたして無条件的な抗生物質の使用がどの程度まで有意義であるかということを中心に，これを臨床細菌学的に検討した。

　すなわち，最近の急性中耳炎を一つの素材として，これに対して比較的抗菌スペクトルの広いErythromycin estolate（Ilosone）使用の実際からなんらかの解答を求めようとした。以下その内容に応じて二つの項を設けて，それらについて観察，検討する。

　Acute otitis. media that occurred recently in the region of Nagoya City and its vicinity was investigated from the standpoint of the type of invading organism and of response to therapy. It was revealed that the type of invading organisms changed with the change of time. The treatment was effected with use of erythromycin estolate invariably in all cases. Various aspects of this method of therapy was studied.
