In order to obviate the recurrence of adhe-sions following the operation for relief of adhesion in the tympanic membrane which has a strong tendency of becoming so, the authors devised a new method. Following Rosen's method of operation placing incisions in the external canal the tympanic membrane is separated as an extended separation along with the skin of the external canal. Epithelial tranplant is, now, placed over the exposed wall of the tympanic cavity ; the combined tympanic membrane and skin flap is,then, allowed to return of its original position. At times it may be necessary to bite away the handle of the maleus. By this method hearing inprovement was attained in 7 ears out of the 10 thus operated. After 2 years of obs-ervation the longest there is no evidence of cholesteatomatous formation from implanted epithelium.
