Katayama and Hashimoto report a case of pharyngeal ulcer that was fatar to the patient. A man, aged 20. complained of sore throat. The tonsils harbored a few small ulcers. This symptom disappeard after tonsillectomy. But, 10 months later, only to find the ulcers recurr-ing again, this time, on the posterior pharyn-geal wall. By laboratory examination, a marked leukopenia is noted but no signs are pointed to bone marrow destructions. Various method of treatment is adopted, such as, tran-fusion, dietary regime and use of antibiotics, the all of which proved to be in vain. The patient died at the end of 4 1/2 months since the onset of the second attack. The author sta-tes that, insofar as the picture presented in this illness failed to fit any known pathological entity, it may be consideres as an atypical form of progressive necrotic rhinitis.
