鼻及び副鼻腔の惡性腫瘍

　副鼻腔の腫瘍は比較的稀なものである。其罹患率全癌患者の4％から2％と報告されている。Martinは全癌の2％。上気道癌の3％であると報告して居る。羅府群立病院では過去七年間一般入院患者1500に対して1例の副鼻腔腫瘍がある。White Memorial Hospital（伝導医科大学附属）でも5000の入院患者に1例である。

　群立病院に於ては1935年より1954年まで19年間に於て69例，又White Memorial Hospitalに於て1941年より1954年までの13年間に23例の副鼻腔悪性腫瘍患者が入院した。人種別に白人 62，メキシコ人 13，Arabian 1，黒人 11，フイリツピン人 2，日本人 2，中国人 1，尚年齡，性別の分布は第1表に示す。

　HARA presents a review on a study of 92 cases of malignant tumors of paranasal sinuses with following conclusions: The five-year survival rate was 33.3% in one hospital and 6.6% in the other. The earlier the diagnosis the greater are the chances of recovery. The only hope of survival at the present stage of the knowledge is dependent upon a complete removal or destruction of the tumor. Neither surgery nor irradiaiton alone is effective; csombined, the chances are infineitly better. Except in rare instances, the author and his associates favor complete excision of the tumor-bearin agrea followed by irradiation of the region.
