TAKAFUJI and associates report 3 cases of hearing impairment that was caused by toxic ef-fects of tetrachlorethylene, carbontetrachloride and thymol, when they had been used either in combination or alone, for treatment of anchylo-stomiasis and ascariasis. In the first and second case history revealed familial tendency toward deafness; with the third case, carbotetrachlori-de and thymol were administered simultaneously over and above patient's poor physical conditions which were noted at the beginning of treatment with generalized weakness; to the second and third case the antihelmintic drugs were given da-ily for the period of 7 days. In all cases the amount of medication administered was conside-red as an overdosage. The authors believe that this toxicity was manifested in the inner ear and cochlear nerve; marked loss of hearing was elicited in the middle and high tones. The pati-ents did not improve under parenteral use of pi-locarpin and vitamin B1.
