IIDA reviews the Iiterature of this country to find 23 cases of fish-hook lodged in the esophagus as foreign bodies, To this list he adds a case of his own.

The fish-hook which was lodged in the esophagus and evidently shown by roentgenogram could not be seen when the esophagoscope was introduced for the removal. For this reason repeat attempts were made but each ended in failure. Thereupon, a thin bamboo rod 35 cm. in length with an eye bored in one of its extremily was devised. After introducing the esophagoscope, the fish line which was fortuna-tely attached to the hook was secured and the free end of this line was dilvered without the esophag-oscope and he mouth; the line was extended to a desired length by tieing a silk thread which was then, passed through the eye of the bamboo rod.

By following in this way with the thread and line as a guide, the eye on the bamboo rod easily enga-ged the shaft of the imbedded fish-hook which, with little exertion, readily disengaged from the wall of the esophagus. After this the removal Was uneven-tful,
