Nakamura and Neganuma maintain essence in the mechanism of intra-arterial injection thera-py, that render it highly effective, is based upon the fact that thereby selective action of the injected agent is exerted on pathological tissues in preference to, over and above, normal areas. Their observatious were made on patients with mastoiditis and experimentally on rabbits. Fol-lowing intra-arterial injection of penicillin in the common carotid artery th authors fpund the amount of penicillin in the blood and discharges from the diseased foci in larger concentration and lasting longer in duration than similar speci-mens taken from normal tissues elsewhere. Aut-hors stress the advantages of intra-arterial the-rapy over and above that of intramuscular with data in support of the method ; they propose therapeutic indications for use of penicillin in cases of mastoiditis; and offer evidence in sup-port of increased phagocytic actions of leucocy-tes by use of penicillin.
