Konishi says the nature of National Hospital in this country is to afford adequate medical care to the wounded of the war, to those repa-triated from other lands, and to the indigents; and to serve for medical leadership among ge-neral practitioners. These hospitals, for the most part, were created by conversion of former miltary hospitals into general publis use, and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. Analytical survey of 915 patients, who sought clinical service of the Otolaryngological Department of Yamanaka National Hospital, was made from medical, seasonal, social and insura-nce point of view. Results of this survey were no different from others of similar character in the literature, exepting for those which were dependent upon peculiarities of the locality. It has been found that 84.49 % of the people in this area made use of the Health Insurance System which left but 13.51% in the care of general practitioners. Even among this minority group there were some who failed to take adva-ntage of the insurance system because of their ignorance of such facilities. The ahthor believes that adequate medical care must be made availa-ble to the rich and the poor alike by gradual education of the public towards adoption of Na-tional Medicine.
