Ⅰ．いとぐち

　乳児期においては頭蓋内感染症は決してまれではないが，それが脳膿瘍を形成することは珍しく，Arseni, et al．^2）の報告では全脳膿瘍例542例中，乳児脳膿瘍例は3例，0.6％，Schulze and Tucht^33）の報告では全脳膿瘍例71例中，乳児脳膿瘍例は1例であり，1.4％を占めているにすぎない．また，著者らが文献上調査しえた4カ月未満の脳膿瘍報告例は内外あわせてわずか45例にすぎない．

　著者らは最近生後55日の乳児脳膿瘍を経験したので報告し，あわせて文献上得られた4カ月未満の脳膿瘍報告例45例を中心として，早期乳児脳膿瘍について検討を加える^{1-3，8-11，13-17，19-21，25-29，31，33-35）}．

A case of spontaneous cerebral abscess in a 2 months old female infant was reported in this paper. The patient was admitted to the Department of Pediatrics of our hospital with chief complaints of rapid enlargement of her head, seizure and fever. Neurological examination on admission to our Neurosurgical Service revealed nothing particular but circumference of the head was 42cm and buldging great fontanelle was 7×7cm in size. The peripheral white blood cell count was 11,400. Lumbar puncture revealed 250/3 cells and protein content of 380mg/dl.
