From 1962 to 1974, 135 patients suffering from brain tumors have been treated at the hospital of National Institute of Radiological Sciences (NIRS), Chiba, Japan. In this series, 20 patients under 15 years old were included, and the gliomas were the most common type of the malignant tumors.

Those patients reffered to NIRS hospital have had already some kind of surgical procedures, i. e. partial resection of the tumors or exploratory operations. Radiation therapy have been given with Tele-cobalt γ rays or 6-MV x-rays. The typical potal arrangement was the two opposing field techniques.
