Re-examination of the Concept of the Microglia

Ⅰ．緒言

　Hortegaによつて整理統一されたミクログリアの概念は最近検索技術の発達と共にその発生，形態および機能に数々の疑問が提出されるようになつてきた。そこで私は電顕およびオートラジオグラフィーを用いてその形態，機能および発生について検索し，若干の考察を加えた。

　Recent investigations with electronmicroscopy and autoradiography have required considerable modification of the concept of the microglia.

　1) In electronmicroscopy extremely dark cells have been identified as microglia. I investigated these cells and found synapses, not infrequently, on the surface of such cell. Besides, the shape, size and distribution of these cells strongly suggest that they are a certain type of neurons, dehydrated and condensed. For distinction from the ordinary neurons, these dark neurons are called ebony type neurons.
