  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Hypothesized mechanisms for the brain dysfunction due to chromosome abnormalities are reviewed. The genes responsible for the development, differentiation and/or the function of the central nervous system in man are divergently located in the genome. In addition, chromosome abnormalities generally involve a loss or gain of genetic materials, since even one finest band of a 2,000 band-stage chro-mosome may contain 2,000~3,000 kb of DNA that also contains 10~50 structural genes. This is why every chromosome abnormality represents the symptoms of brain dysfunction.
