正常グリアと腫瘍性グリアの特性

Characteristics of normal and neoplastic glial cell differentiation.

　いかなる腫瘍細胞も宿主の正常細胞から作られることは疑いを入れない事実であり，腫瘍細胞はこのことによってその母地であった正常細胞の形態・機能的特徴や分化能を原則的に保有することになる。したがって，脳腫瘍でも，その分類は母地に擬される正常細胞の形態・機能的分化がどの程度腫瘍の中に再現模倣されているかをみることによってなされるのである。いうならば，腫瘍は正常細胞の分化を下敷きとして分類されるとみてよい。

　分類という手段は，人間が自然の現象を科学的に認識するのに，最も基本的な形式として案出されたものである。分類の原理は対象にたいし，似たものをまとめつつ（analogy），一方では，同一のカテゴリーに属さないものを，相違点をはっきりさせたうえで区別する（heterology），という二つの手順を繰り返し適用することに基づいている。

　Any neoplastic cells are originated from a normal cell, thereby retaining, to some extent, differentiative characteristics of the normal counterpart. Classification is performed by detecting the resemblance of the tumor cells to the counterpart from which the former were to be originated. The theoretical basis of the classification of glioma group of Bailey and Cushing was founded on this principle.

　Since 1926 when they collected data of glial differentiation in normal ontogeny, our knowledges and concepts on cellular differentiation of neuroglial cells have been changed considerably.
