  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Growth hormone (GH) secretion from the pituitary is under the control of the hypothalmus through an inhibiting peptide, somatostatin (SRIF) and a stimulating peptide, GH-releasing factor (GRF). Hypothalamic SRIF acts directly on the pituitary to inhibit GH as well as TSH secretion. SRIF is also distributed in the central nervous system and may function as a neurotransmitter or neuromodulator.

Intravenous (iv) injection of human GRF (1~44) (hGRF, 50 ng-1 μg/100 g BW) resulted in a dose-related increase in plasma GH levels in the rat.
