視床下部ホルモン（とくにバゾプレシン，オキシトシン）の下垂体ホルモン分泌に対する作用

はじめに

　1955年にG．W．Harris^1）は名著"Neural Control of the Pituitary Gland"を出版し，視床下部が下垂体門脈を通じて液性に下垂体を調節していることを明らかにした。これを契機に，多くの研究者により視床下部性下垂体前葉ホルモン分泌調節因子の分離・精製・同定が試みられた。しかし，当時の技術では新ホルモンの発見は困難で，近年にいたり初めてTSH放出ホルモン（TRH），性腺刺激ホルモン放出ホルモン（GnRHあるいはLH・RH），ソマトスタチン，ACTH放出因子（CRF），成長ホルモン放出因子（GRH）などが次々と発見されるにいたった。

　この過程において，すべての下垂体前葉ホルモン調節因子の候補として，バゾプレシンあるいはオキシトシンの名が挙げられた。この理由は，視床下都ホルモン抽出材料として用いた動物の視床下部あるいは下垂体中に大量の後葉ホルモン（バゾプレシン，オキシトシン）が含有されているため，後葉ホルモンと真の下垂体ホルモン分泌調節ホルモンの分離が困難であったことによると思われる。しかし，それぞれの下垂体前葉ホルモンに対する分泌調節囚子，たとえばACTHに対するCRFが同定されるとともに，後葉ホルモンが主要な前葉ホルモン調節因子である可能性は自然に否定されることとなった。

The presence of vasopressin and oxytocin in neuronal elements of the external layer of the median eminence and in hypophysial portal plasma suggests a role for the peptides in the control of anterior pituitary function. Although the concentra-tion of vasopressin in portal plasma elicit ACTH only poorly, it can potentiate the action of CRF on ACTH from corticotropes. These observations support the view that the physiological action of vasopressin in stress-induced ACTH secretion is due to potentiation of the effect of CRF, rather than to its releasing activity.
