Potentials evoked by natural somatic and electrical stimulation in the human thalamus

I．Introduction

　ヒトの脳内誘発電位の研究に関しては，まず第一にそれが直接治療に役に立つ必要があり，また少なくとも記録のための電極を脳内に挿入するという技術的問題のほかに多くの制約があるため，動物実験とは異なりこれまできわめて限られた範囲でのみ行なわれてきた。実際このような研究は定位的脳手術の際に凝固すべき場所を各個人で正確に決定するという必要から動物実験で得られた知識の応用として行なわれたものがほとんどであろう。しかし，多くの制約のもとでも各国の研究者の正確で注意深い系統的観察から，動物では得られない貴重な事実が明らかにされてきたのも事実である。

　したがってここでは，主として定位的脳手術の目標点として問題になる視床の腹外側部で得られた誘発電位についてこれまでに行なわれてきた研究をまとめて述べてみたい。なお誘発電位としては集合電位のみならず，単一スパイク放電についても言及する。

Abstract

Studies on the mass potentials and spike poten-tials evoked by natural somatic and electrical stimulation in the human thalamus have been reviewed. This kind of studies is justified only when it is valuable in the treatment of the patients. Therefore, it has been done exclusively in the course of stereotactic surgery to overcome the imprecision of stereotaxy in the human brain. After almost twenty years of experiences, it was shown that the neurophysiological method includ-ing such evoked potential studies was one of the most reliable way to determine the precise locali-zation.
