Ⅰ．緒言

　"脳炎"は神経疾患の中では決して稀なものではなく臨床神経学の日常においてその実例に遭遇することも少なからずあり，またそれらの病理所見に関する報告例も多い。しかしその病態は単一ではなく，通常臨床病理学的には三つの型に大別して考えられている。

　第一は急牲脳炎であるが頻度としては最も多く原因も細菌からvirus，richettsia，原虫と多岐にわたり，その原因によりそれぞれ特有の臨床像および病理所見を呈する場合が多い。

　A case is described in which a clinical picture of "Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP)" developed in the 10-years-course of chronic encephalitis.

　The patient was a 44-year-old official with a history of measles in childhood and so-called "typhus" while young in north Manchuria. He had been quite well before the age of 34 when, after a short period of unknown fever, developed the symptoms as follows; change of character, lethargic phase, dementia, speech and gait dis-turbances, emotional lability, hyperhydrosis and obesity.
